Have a Question?

Here are some FAQs

What do your sessions look like?
Our sessions are tailored to each child, considering their strengths, needs, and interests. We often incorporate a playful and hands-on approach, as children and adolescents tend to grasp concepts more effectively in multisensory environments rather than through repetitive drills. The focus is on creating an enjoyable atmosphere where learning happens naturally. In high school sessions, this might involve activities such as applying newly acquired skills to homework, discussing information through videos, or adopting a child-led therapy approach where teens teach the therapist a concept or explore a topic of interest together.
Why in-home therapy & community therapy?
I offer both in-home and community-based therapy options because I believe that providing services in familiar environments ensures the child's comfort and safety. Community-based learning allows us to integrate real-world experiences and scenarios, facilitating the practical application of language skills. By conducting sessions in settings where the child feels secure, we can establish rapport and foster optimal progress overall.
Can I participate in my child's therapy sessions?
We wholeheartedly encourage family participation at NYE Homegrown Learning, aligning with our mission to strengthen family relationships through positive communication approaches. However, we respect the autonomy of the child (the client) when addressing speech and language targets, goals, and needs. Granting preteens and adolescents the decision-making power builds trust, comfort, and fosters increased focus and attention, particularly with older, high school students. Parents, rest assured, you always have the right to information concerning the observed success throughout the sessions!
Do you work on social language skills?
Absolutely, we prioritize working on social pragmatic language skills to equip your preteen or adolescent for effective social interactions with peers. Our approach embraces the unique social communication differences and challenges of each child, fostering self-advocacy skills. We encourage the child to set their own social communication goals, promoting self-reflection to determine the effectiveness, meaningfulness, and success of their interactions. Through this process, your child will develop problem-solving and critical thinking abilities crucial for navigating social situations. While we don't force eye contact, we highly encourage it during conversations. Our sessions also focus on discussing and teaching expected vs. unexpected behaviors, and we explore non-preferred topics to reinforce the concept of reciprocation during conversation.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, we do not accept insurance. Nevertheless, we are actively working on the option of providing you with documentation which can be submitted to your insurance for potential reimbursement (more information on this matter in the near future).  We utilize Stripe, a secure online payment method, for collecting payments. Please note: payments are required at least 24 hours prior to any scheduled evaluation or therapy session. If payment is not received, the therapist will not proceed with the session.
Will you collaborate with my child's school team?
Absolutely! We find great joy in advocating as an SLP.  Advocating for families and their children's needs, along with collaborating with other professionals, is a crucial aspect of our approach.  We firmly believe a whole-team approach is instrumental in fostering the most efficient growth for each student.
